On February 27, 2022, the mayor of the city of Dniprorudne, Yevhen Matveev, joined a human shield blocking the path of Russian tanks. On March 13, 2022, the mayor was illegally detained by the Russian occupiers at a checkpoint due to his refusal to cooperate with the Russian military.
Currently, Yevhen’s location is unknown, but according to the Red Cross, he remains in captivity.
