The last time Volodymyr Bondarenko’s neighbor saw him was on March 13, 2022, near his house in the Northern Saltovka district of Kharkiv. According to other former hostages, Volodymyr was taken captive when he was heading from his home to his summer house in the Liptsy district to escape the shelling. In October 2022, Volodymyr’s family received a letter from him informing them that he was in pretrial detention center number 2 in Staryi Oskol, Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The Red Cross confirmed his location.
