Why the Kremlin decided to release Nadia Savchenko
On the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin exchanged Hope Savchenko Russian GRU Yerofeyev and Alexandrov influenced persuasion and pressure from the West. And this pressure it is necessary to continue, a Russian human rights activist and leader of the All-Russian Movement “For Human Rights”, a member of the Moscow Helsinki Group , Lev Ponomarev:
I do it all the time wondered why Putin did not sign the decision on clemency. This is because, by definition, cost-effective solution. After all, when a person does a good deed, then regardless of who that person is – good or bad – it is always good. In addition, Putin talked for a long time to pardon Nadia, and not just her.
But it is worth noting that the pardon power under Putin, as such, in principle, virtually stopped working. And this despite the fact that the president has the right to it. Completely wrong to say that you need to do this for some kind of treatment. It is not true. The wording of the Constitution is as follows: the president has the unconditional right to pardon. Consider it his whim. Here he wants – and has compassion. Anyone. Whether you’re a murderer, or a person who is not to blame, as is the case with Nadia Savchenko. But Putin has used this tool a few times, and only political considerations. While Yeltsin was doing it a lot, and often even with pleasure.
On the other hand, Putin’s decision today (pardon Savchenko) a good sign also for the further development of the situation in the east of Ukraine. It really is a signal that in the near future changes can go and on the so-called Ukrainian hostages, who were detained on the territory of Russia after the military operations in the Donbass. All of them should be exchanged for Russian citizens, who are in Ukrainian prisons. This may be the first step towards the exchange of “all for all”.
So, of course, on the one hand expect, but at the same time very unexpected Putin’s decision is a certain sign that maybe Putin will be able to compromise and more. But go or not – we, unfortunately, do not know. But the hope, anyway, is to accompany our actions. And better to let on Ukrainian soil.
It is difficult to say which contributed to today’s logic of Putin’s actions, but, clearly, in this tangible and pressure from the West. What exactly it was the West’s actions in relation to Putin – that is, it was persuasion, or the actual pressure and may influence both, – it is difficult to say, but we must continue to do all this, time is the result of these actions. It is only necessary to have perseverance and patience.
