In support of democracy. The Regional Director of the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) visited the Center for Civil Liberties

David Rubino, the Regional Director of the ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), visited the Center for Civil Liberties to discuss the situation in Ukraine, the needs and challenges facing Ukrainian civil society, and various aspects of transitional justice.

The Ukrainian side at the meeting was represented by Volodymyr Yavorsky, expert and program director of the Center for Civil Liberties, Roman Nekoliak, coordinator of international cooperation of the Center, and the interns of the organization, students Olesia Leleka and Victoria Mamoilik.

During the meeting, various possibilities for cooperation were discussed, especially in the context of researching the crime of aggression, investigating war crimes, solving legal problems of civilians in captivity, and shaping state policy on the de-occupied territories. These discussions provide the basis for further joint initiatives to support democracy and human rights in Ukraine.

ABA ROLI has been actively working to promote human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine since 1992. The organization focuses on the development of the advocacy sector, the fight against corruption, cybercrime and human trafficking. Funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) plays an important part in these initiatives.
