«Thanked for the boldness in breaking the political taboo on sending troops to aid Ukraine». Oleksandra Matviichuk met with President of France and President of the National Assembly of the country

During her visit to the capital of France on March 6th-7th, Head of the Center for Civil Liberties Oleksandra Matviichuk held an informal meeting with President Emmanuel Macron within the framework of his meetings with female presidents and heads of parliaments of different countries. Talked about the state of Ukrainians in the conditions of the 10-year and about the support from France.

Oleksandra arrived in Paris to participate in the Summit with Mrs. Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly of France. The Summit was dedicated to women’s right, the value of equality and democracy around the world. To promote active feminist parliamentary diplomacy, Braun-Pivet set herself the goal of bringing together all speakers of national assemblies in Paris to reaffirm their strong commitment to women’s rights and share experiences and joint actions.

«I thanked President Macron for the boldness in breaking the political taboo on sending troops to aid Ukraine and for his efforts in forming such a coalition. I mentioned about the call for justice and confiscation of frozen Russian assets. Emmanuel Macron spoke about the support provided by France. He was also interested in how we, Ukrainians, are experiencing the war we have been living in for over 10 years», – shared Oleksandra Matviichuk.

During the event, Oleksandra gave an introduction speech, reminding about 64 thousand Ukrainian women who are currently defending democracy and freedom in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The human rights activist also spoke about women who during the war are engaged in volunteering, documenting war crimes, cultural diplomacy etc  in conditions of constant hostilities and the danger of shelling through all the territory of Ukraine. Besides, a member of the House of Representatives and former speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, addressed the participants of the Summit with a welcoming video.
