Oleksandr Babych

After the occupation of Hola Prystan, Oleksandr Babych performed his mayoral duties for more than a month: organizing humanitarian supplies, checking patrol groups, and going to rallies against the war with his family. Because of his position, he received threats from local Russian sympathizers. Oleksandr was abducted on March 28, 2022. The Russian military forcibly took Oleksandr from his home and led him to the local administration, where 15 unmarked Russian soldiers were waiting for him. They treated him aggressively before taking him in an unknown direction. The Russian side refuses to recognize Oleksandr’s detention. According to journalist Andriy Sokov, Oleksandr is being held in the Simferopol pretrial detention center.
