Ex-Kremlin prisoners will work for Ukraine’s foreign ministry

New platform will unite state agencies and NGOs to help release Ukrainian political prisoners.
Pavlo Klimkin, Ukraine’s foreign minister, has said Yuriy Yatsenko and Hennadiy Afanasyev, two Ukrainian citizens freed from Russian imprisonment, will assist in the liberation of Ukrainian political prisoners still in Russian captivity.
“We saw the emerging of fundamentally new challenges during the last 2.5 years,” Klimkin said during the 12th Council of heads of diplomatic missions of Ukraine. “For example, the liberation of our political prisoners and hostages.”

“I can say that starting next week, here at the foreign ministry we will have a special platform where we and non-governmental organisations will be cooperating,” the minister added.

According to Klimkin, Afanasyev and Yatsenko will be working as special representatives of the foreign ministry.
“We will coordinate the process of providing assistance and releasing political prisoners,” Klimkin said.
