Euromaidan SOS transfers data on Russian war crimes to the “Tribunal for Putin” and to the “War Archive”

“Euromaidan SOS” transfers the collected information on war crimes, documented during the collection of data on the consequences of the temporary occupation of part of the Kyiv region by Russian forces after the beginning of large-scale aggression, to the initiative “Tribunal for Putin” and the project Docudays UA “War Archives.” Oleksandra Matviychuk, Head of the Center for Civil Liberties (CCS), announced this.

“I thank all the people who, in the first weeks of the full-scale invasion of Russia, joined in recording the testimonies of victims and witnesses of war crimes in different parts of our country,” she said.

Oleksandra Matviychuk recalled that on February 24, human rights defenders encountered an unprecedented number of war crimes that no one recorded.

“That’s why my colleagues and I devised a screening method and involved ordinary people in gathering testimonies. After all, to record the answers to 5 simple questions and take contacts from the victims, it is not necessary to know international humanitarian law or documentation standards”, – said the Head of the CCL.

She also emphasized that the screening made it possible to “quickly discover how the disease behaves and what forms it chooses.” Thanks to this work, “Euromaidan SOS”, together with the Association of Lawyers of Ukraine, prepared and submitted a comprehensive submission to the Moscow Mechanism of the OSCE in March, based on the testimonies of people from different regions of the country.

“We document so that the guilty are brought to justice. And for the investigation, it is important that all information is stored in one database, establishing connections between episodes and identifying the culprits,” Oleksandra Matviychuk summarized.

It is also worth adding that the “Euromaidan SOS» initiative joined the project of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival team, which creates a war archive and collects information for scientific works, documentaries, artistic works, etc.

Docudays UA project, War Archive is an unified database of video and audio materials about the war in Ukraine. It stores and organizes the military chronicle. Millions of people have become victims and witnesses of numerous crimes. With the help of the simplest means of documentation, these crimes can be made visible and the perpetrators punished. In order to use these materials used against the aggressor in criminal courts, journalistic investigations, scientific and artistic works, they must be professionally collected and stored.
