Euromaidan SOS open appeal to UN Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres

As the situation in Mariupol reaches the point of a devastating human tragedy and civilians, wounded and Ukrainian defenders in AzovStal are facing imminent death under heavy bombardment, it is high time for the world to finally demonstrate it could be as brave as Ukraine.

We call on the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres who is currently visiting Kyiv to personally lead the rescue mission and save Ukrainian citizens from the besieged Mariupol! We are convinced that if such a mission is openly and courageously headed by the leader of the UN, no Russian military would ever dare to target such a humanitarian corridor.

At the same time, this mission could be a real game-changer for the UN and can help to restore public trust in this key international organization globally reviving its sense of purpose and reaffirming its raison d’etre.

As famous Ukrainian writer Ivan Bahrianyi wrote in his signature novel Tiger Trappers: “Only those who are courageous deserve happiness.” Ukrainian defenders and Ukrainian people in Mariupol have already proven their extreme and undefeatable courage. It is now the turn of the UN and other major international players to demonstrate they are not afraid of supporting humanity with real actions, not just with words.

With hope,
