– Who came to you with a request to act in this process as a witness?

– Attorney Doc Itslaev asked the court to invite me as a witness. I flew to Grozny, because I could not do this. Prior to that, we prepared the indictment analysis. And it was my duty – to set out all that I know, the jury, which will decide on the guilt or innocence and Karpyuk Klyha. Within half an hour I was interrogated in the presence of the jury.

– What is the essence of this process and the charges against the citizens of Ukraine?

– In Chechnya, the essence of this process is realized immediately, because it can mean the consequences for a great many citizens of the republic – one can judge everyone who fought in the first or the second Chechen war. Understand whether it is the Chechen authorities – I do not know. Because, in fact, to a large extent, Ramzan Kadyrov has legitimacy as the guarantor of the non-prosecution of participants of the first and second Chechen wars just for participating in those wars. there was no amnesty. And technically possible to prosecute anyone. Karpyuk and Klyha judged for what they allegedly fought and shot Russian soldiers. This is the main part of the charges. It speaks also of torture, but that for some reason is not in charge, under article is not qualified. That is a process where all the charge is built on the fact that Mr. So-and-so, Mr. fought against Russian troops. Another thing,

What is written in the indictment, it has no relation to reality. It is known all – who went on a street whose combat vehicle, where hit, when, where, and what battles were. And it turns out that on January 1-2 1995 30 the Russian soldiers near Minutka Square murdered Ukrainians. But there fighting unfolded in early February. And then, in January, it was the heartland of the Chechen formations. No fighting was not here. No one here to kill, take prisoner and could not be tortured. Weight journalists breezing through the area just a minute, and then they moved to the city center. And, accordingly, the mountains of corpses with signs of torture could not be here. Because journalists have sought to show the place where the bodies of Russian soldiers lie. It was an important propaganda task – to show that the Russian army has suffered heavy losses. If near Minutka Square was a dump corpses of Russian soldiers to be led shoals journalists. But there was nothing. This is the first.

There are allegations of torture. About the torture known according to previously convicted Malofeeva , which already had a 20-year term, and then confirmed in the testimony and Karpyuk Klyha. As the defendants contend, all their confessions were extracted under torture. And, in general, I have no particular reason to doubt their words, because they are confirmed completely unimaginable things! In addition, they have an alibi. With Ukraine came witnesses who confirmed it. And indeed, until the spring of 2014 and Karpyuk Klyh were not on the list of those Ukrainians whose extradition the Russian side demanded from Ukraine in connection with their participation in the fighting in Chechnya during the first war. They emerged as Arseniy Yatsenyuk, only after the events on the Maidan.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk repeatedly appears in the indictment. A feeling that it was necessary to indict Ukrainian public figures, which previously were not even involved in the orbit investigation of the events of the first Chechen war. Karpyuk and Klyh all signed. However, when they were lawyers hired by the relatives, they refused to testify, having shown signs of torture. And in light of what is been written in the indictment, it looks convincing. I have a general feeling that they first appeared in Grozny during the trial.

– When you testified, was it a lot of people in the courtroom?

– Alas, when I was in court, but the man was beside me, carrying out monitoring of the process, there were lawyers, prosecutor, judge, secretary, bailiffs and all. There was not a journalist. However, it later came to Ukrainian journalists, but their arrival coincided with not very pleasant event, when Grozny was attacked Igor Kalyapin. A large part of the process took place with virtually no public, but when the relatives of the accused and journalists arrived, it turned out that the room is full, some audience suddenly mobilized, and, as in the glorious days of dissident pores, the hall was occupied entirely by organized workers. The process does not have the resonance as Savchenko process. And then the claim, perhaps, to the Ukrainian journalists to the Ukrainian public. This case, unfortunately, is far less known than the case Savchenko. Karpyuk and Klyh not so photogenic. Klyh now in general is not in the best mental condition. Karpyuk from the courtroom was removed because of statements. So that the process takes place without them.

This is a very important process, because there is some speculation regarding the victories and the 20-year-old defeats, are the lines in the criminal case, which could lead to a lifetime of convicted people. Meanwhile, all the things for which they are trying to condemn, is not very good quality fiction. Karpyuk Klyha and I do not know, have not seen them once. I’m not sure if I communicate with them, would find some common topics of conversation. But, sorry, here it is a total falsification of the criminal case.

We are talking about the fact that dozens of our compatriots, those soldiers who died while in the winter 1995, cynically used to justify the false accusations. I am in the first war, worked in Chechnya, while looking for these missing soldiers. And then I could not understand why the government is not looking for those who sent in his name, and now I can not accept the fact that those who died in use are not very conscientious purposes.
