The situation with the annexation of the Crimea calls for new international legal instruments

The situation that arose in Ukraine in connection with the annexation of the Crimea Russia, requires the creation of new international legal instruments.

This was on ” SK ” said the director of advocacy center of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union Boris Zakharov.

“From the point of view of international law, a unique event took place in Crimea, where the state does not just create a hybrid war, separated part of the territory, but did not join him. The peninsula was annexed, recognized Russian part of the Russian Federation. This situation requires the creation of new international legal instruments. Ukraine could first adopt the new laws at the national level “, – said Zakharov.

According to human rights activist, Ukraine needs to raise the issue of Russian membership in the UN Security Council.

“Russia itself announced a country-successor of the USSR. This fact is all swallowed. Why is Russia, not Ukraine? We can put this question. With regard to hybrid war that Russia is Ukraine, there is no normal legal settlement. We call this the ATO, in fact, there is a real war. We do not fit into any martial law or ATO. Ukraine needs a new law on hybrid war. On its basis should be established relevant international instruments that regulate the rights and freedoms of people in a hybrid war. That is, in our sad experience, we can initiate the creation of new international legal instruments, “- said Zakharov.
