“No anti CGB spirit of the people”
Russian human rights activist, historian, head of the International Society “Memorial” Arseny Roginsky took the news of the decision of the Verkhovna Rada to disclose the KGB archives skeptical:
– Nothing wrong with that, but I can not believe the end of the fullness of the opening of Ukrainian KGB archives. declassification of the archives, I certainly support, but, on the other hand, I call for some caution.
This step will contribute to the consolidation of some parts of society. But what about the other part of society, I do not know.
If a country feels cohesive enough to go through this the hard way, then so be it. But from the Ukraine I have no experience of such a degree of consolidation of the society and of the common attitude to the past, both in the countries that really felt themselves occupied. This is not the Czech Republic, which is firmly thought that until a certain time it ran out, people from some other countries. And I do not think that Ukraine is so cohesive and so one, not even she branched off from the Soviet Union.
In Ukraine, there are all kinds of people in different ways related to the past. Accordingly, the consequences can be more complex than in Eastern Europe. People will not believe someone someone will have to prove anything, they will mutually something to blame each other.
Prove all this is really hard. Because it does not have such a, relatively speaking, antikagebeshnogo the general mood of the people. In my opinion, there is much more difficult, and the attitude to the problem of security is much more complex.
I can not imagine the current state of Ukrainian archives. I do not know any details, but I doubt that will open completely all. Perhaps, in these archives contain quite a lot of information about the transaction in relation to countries with which borders Ukraine. But even if it is done what promised power, then it will not lead to dramatic consequences. I think that most of the system of exceptions, are taken into account the interests of some people will be drawn up, which affects the whole story. I think that will be it is more a declaration.
