STATEMENT of the Crimean Tatar public organizations participating in the elections of the delegates for the VI Kurultay of the Crimean Tatar people

About inadmissibility of groundless accusations of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people of extremism with the aim of banning.

Crimean prosecutor’s decision to go to court with an administrative lawsuit to ban the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, though was not a surprise, however, in terms of its justification appears contradictory,   as the international law  so the laws of the Russian Federation itself.

Moreover, an attempt to destroy the system of national self-government of the Crimean Tatar people – it is a challenge to international law in the field of indigenous rights. Being based on dubious “evidence”  the desire  to prosecute dissent under the guise of combating extremism, rises doubt in the actions of the prosecutor’s office   from the moral point of view as well.
Based on the fact that:

– Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, is not a public organization or a  political  party with like-minded members. In its present structure is a representative body, formed in November 2013, by the National Congress of the Crimean Tatar people – Kurultai, the delegates profess different political views, including those on the ways to achieving national goals for development and prosperity;

– An attempt to destroy the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people is also a massacre of the entire system of national government agencies, including the National Congress – Kurultai, and therefore, the actions the prosecutor’s office of the Crimea can not be regarded otherwise than gross violation of the basic rights of indigenous people of Crimea on the formation of their representative bodies;

– All claims to the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people regarding it’s “extremism” built on false accusations without specifying the relevant evidence concerning the activities of those of its members who live today directly on the territory of Crimea,
We, the undersigned representatives of  public organizations who participated the elections of the delegates on VI Kurultay of the Crimean Tatar people on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot, considered unacceptable actions of Crimean prosecutor’s office to ban the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people as the representative body of the indigenous people of Crimea.
